Ochiai-juku is the 44th post town along the Nakasendo, located in a bowl-shaped terrain connecting Magome-juku and Nakatsugawa-juku. In ancient times, it was a small village at the foot of the Misaka Pass on the ancient Tōsandō Road.
Here is also one of the few places where the “honjin” (a lodging place for important guests) still remains, and three temples are still in work today.

Three temples of Ochiai have prepared this experience for guests enjoying Nakasendo Trail in order to bring them closer to Ochiaisho. Each of the three temples offers programs to experience Buddhist traditions, such as Zen meditation, tea ceremony, and calligraphy. In addition, guided tours are available for those who wish to fully enjoy Ochiai-juku.
